How to Choose Pet Friendly Furniture - Fabric Edition

As much as we adore our furry companions, their presence can pose challenges when it comes to upkeeping the condition of furniture. From scratches, fur shedding, to stains, pet ownership demands additional care to keep sofas and beds looking and feeling pristine. For this guide, we visited various pet owners to hear their experience of managing their pets in conjunction with our fabric upholstered furniture. We’ll explore practical tips and tricks to strike a perfect balance between a pet-friendly home and stylish fabric furniture that withstands the test of time.

1. Stefenie and Han Quan’s Zoe 3-Seater Sofa in Nono Petrol Fabric

Our first stop was to the home of Stefenie and Han Quan, where we met Notty the cat. Being a young and energetic cat, they had to consider upholstery which could accommodate Notty - leading them to eventually decide on our Nono fabric. Nono is a tight weave, velvety smooth fabric made from recycled polyester, with a high rub count of 100,000 and coupled with tight weaving meaning that it is highly durable and resistant to claw attacks. Although scratch marks were visible, there had been no snags in the fabric thus far. For maintenance, they mentioned massaging the fabric in circular motions to smoothen out the scratch marks. They also regularly use a damp cloth (water only!) to wipe off stains. Microfiber cloths work best when cleaning upholstery.

2. Edna’s Zoe 3-Seater Sofa in Aquaclean Lugano 04 Fabric

We were warmly greeted by Jazzy the dog as we stepped foot into Edna’s place. As we were being showered with big hugs and kisses, we wondered how the sofa was holding up against such an active dog. Edna decided on the Aquaclean Lugano fabric as her upholstery material, which is a high performance fabric with spill and scratch resistant properties. Despite having spilt barbeque sauce and Jazzy vomiting bile on the sofa before, Edna mentions that with timely action taken, the resulting stains were easily removed - a testament to the performance of the Aquaclean fabric. As a general rule of thumb, the sooner a spill is cleaned, the less likely it is to stain. There are also no visible scratch marks on the fabric. Other than that, she also regularly vacuums the sofa to remove fur and dirt.

3. Walter’s Noah 3-Seater Sofa in Oriental Cream Fabric

It was a pleasure to visit Walter at Assemblyclan’s studio (@assemblyclan), the owner of two Cavapoos, Stormi and Rody. Featured in his studio was our Noah Sofa in Oriental Cream fabric, which is a multi-yarn fabric that gives a subtle texture and structure to the sofa. Being playful and active dogs, Stormi and Rody jump around on the sofa frequently after their meals and walks. Although the Oriental fabric does not feature any particular pet resistant properties, Walter was able to keep the sofa in pristine condition with some tips and tricks. Firstly, he chose a cream colour instead of pure white, so that dirt and scratch marks would be less visible. Secondly, training the pets well also reduces the risk of them ravaging the sofa. As Walter’s studio is also rented out for shoots and events, they regularly maintain the furniture to uphold its condition.

4. Merlissa and Bensen’s Gaia Queen Bed in Plume Cream Fabric

Meet Poker and Panda, the lively Bengal cats owned by Merlissa and Bensen! Despite the cats ravaging and leaving their previous fabric bed in bad condition, they decided to take a leap of faith and opt for our Gaia Bed in Plume fabric - which is a bouclé fabric made of polyester. Since then, it appears to have become the new home for Poker and Panda. Bouclé simply means ‘looped’, giving it that beautiful tactile finish and interesting texture. The bouclé fabric at J. edition has a rub count of 20,000, meaning it is less likely to snag due to its tighter loops. Additionally, with it being a textured fabric, Merlissa and Bensen mentioned not having to worry about scratch marks and fabric pilling, as it is generally unnoticeable to the eye.

Fun fact, our Gaia Bed also has fully removable covers, leaving you with the option of washing them!
